Free Blog Vs Paid Blog - Which One Should You Go For?

Once you decide to get a blog for yourself, you will be faced with two options, to get a free blog or a paid blog. You will get tons of websites where you can sign up for a free blog and some of them are fairly popular these days, but have you given it a serious thought about what you want to use, a free blog or a paid blog?
Before getting into details lets discuss what a free blog is. A free blog is what you will get once you sign up with a free blogging service like wordpress or blogger.com. A paid blog or a self hosted blog would be the one where you have to pay to the host such as hostgator, even though the platform is free. So, what are the pros of a free blog?

The very first pro is that it is free. All you need to do to get a free blog is to fill in a form, few clicks and you are good to do. Once you have signed up, the automated wizard will guide you through the rest of the process and you can customize your blog according to your taste. You can select themes, font styles, headline style etc…
Once you are done with customization, the next step is posting your blogs. That is the easiest part, all you need to do is click on new, paste your text and click publish and you're online. Another thing is that most of these free blogs are Search engine optimization (SEO) ready. You won't need to promote your website as it is already done so and most free blogging platforms are already linked to search engines etc…
There are a few cons of having a free blog as well. Your choice will be limited and you will have to select what the platform presents. You can only select basic designs which are free and you will have to live with that. It means that there will be many other blogs which will look exactly the same.
A paid blog on the other hand will give you better control of your web design. You can either pick free themes or purchase others if you prefer. You will have a professional URL and a domain name of your choice if it is available.
The first disadvantage is that all this is much more complicated and you would need to a lot of work like install WordPress yourself and do the SEO of the website yourself too. Promotion would be your headache as well as you will need to submit your blog to blog directories etc…
The choice however in the end will be yours as to what you want to do.
